Guide for NRIs to Book Tickets Under IRCTC NRI Quota

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) allows Foreign tourists as well as NRIs with valid Passport to book train tickets up to 365 days in advance under foreign tourist quota under the current advance reservation period (ARP), the berths will be allocated at the time booking. NRIs can avail Foreign Tourist Quota facility to book railway tickets online using IRCTC eTicketing via following steps:

1. Registration

The new users are required to register themselves on the IRCTC website, www.irctc.co.in, according to the prescribed user registration process, while the old users are mandated to update the mobile number through the update option on IRCTC e-ticketing website

2. Mobile verification

Using Update profile option on IRCTC eTicketing website, Foreign Tourists and NRIs should first submit and verify the International mobile number in their profile. To verify the provided mobile number, an OTP will be sent. User must submit the received OTP to complete the verification process.

3. Ticket Booking

Foreign tourists and NRIs can book train tickets by selecting ‘Foreign Tourist Ticket Booking’ under ‘Services’ option after logging into the IRCTC e-ticketing website. Users need to provide valid Passport number at the time of booking tickets. Foreign tourists and NRIs can reserve train tickets for Executive Class, 1st AC (1A) and 2nd AC (2A) classes of the train under foreign tourist quota. 

4. Method of Payment

For payment of ticket booking amount, users have the option to make payment using an international debit/credit card. There is a charge of Rs 200+ applicable taxes per ticket booked under Foreign Tourist Quota through IRCTC eTicketing website. 

5. Ticket Confirmation

After successful payment and booking of ticket Booking, SMS and confirmation mail will be sent on the registered mobile number and e-mail id respectively.

6. Refund on Canceled Transactions

• In case of cancelation by User, 50% of the fare shall be deducted in addition to the cancelation charges. In case berth is not allotted by Railway PRS system, a ticket will be automatically canceled and Cancelation SMS/Email with details will be sent to the user on his/her registered mobile number and email address.

• If booking amount has been debited from customer’s bank account and a ticket was not issued, IRCTC will refund the entire Fare and IRCTC service charges electronically (as a credit to the relevant credit /debit card account used for the transaction).

• Refunds amount if any will be credited only in the account which was used for ticket booking.
