Adventure junkies, want to have some adrenaline-pumping adventure in a limited budget plan? Nothing can be more worth than visiting Kalavantin Durg for a heart-pounding experience. Visit this trek to experience the thrill and challenge your limits! Located at a hefty altitude of 2,300 feet between Matheran and Panvel in the Sahyadri mountains of Maharashtra, Kalavantin Durg was used as a watchtower due to its soaring height, which also makes this trek a thrilling adventure. Surrounded with lush greenery, misty hills, waterfalls on the way, the way to reach this fort is through rugged terrains, narrow rock-cut steps & steep slopes. The trail of the trek is zig zac and a little dangerous since there is a railing for support but the thrilling experience will stimulate your senses for a lifetime experience.
Thakurwadi village in Palgarh, Maharastra is the base village to start this adventurous trip. The midpoint of the trek is Prabalmachi plateau and takes 2 hours to reach there. The trail from Thakurwadi to Prabalmachi is lined with picturesque views of high mountain ranges, small villages, verdant greenery. You may relax, stock food, water at this place because the trek after passing this is a bit tricky & dangerous and made up of rocky stairs with no support. But when you reach the fort, beautiful landscape around will stimulate each of the senses and all the efforts will be paid off. It will give a real sense of achievement. While climbing down, be very careful as there are rock-cut 2 feet high steeps. A small mistake here and you will find yourself deep in the valleys of Sahayadri’s. It generally takes around 3 to 5 hours to complete the trek depending on an individual’s fitness level.
Stay and food options at Kalavantin Durg Trek: At Prabalmachi, few locals provide snacks, lunch, dinners to trekkers. Tents are also available to stay @Rs.200/person.
Best Season to Visit: August-March. Although the monsoon season will add more thrill to your trek, climbing up slippery stairs may prove quite challenging.
How to Reach Kalavantin Durg:
By Train - Panvel railway station is the nearest station. From there, board State Transport bus till base village, get down at Shedung Phata and hire Rickshaw till Thakurwadi Village.
By Car - Drive till Shedung Phata Panvel on old Mumbai Pune expressway. Take a turn towards Thakurwadi Village from here. Landmark Zoia Mountain Spa near Thakurwadi Village.
