Description
ISKCON Kolkata, Sri Sri Radha Govind Temple is India's first ISKCON centre that has been attracting countless devotees and tourists since its establishment in 1972. The shrine was set up by Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada - a Gaudiya Vaishnava spiritual teacher (guru), who is known to have established many temples across the world. The temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna, is made of granite and marble in an architectural style that catches attention of every onlooker. Inside the temple, there is a skilfully carved wooden altar. The first Rath Yatra in Kolkata was organised by this shrine in the year 1972. Since then, it is one of the regular annual festivals held in the city. For visitors, there is a vegetarian restaurant within the complex that features a beautiful garden in the centre.
