Description
Rabindra Sarovar, which was previously called Dhakuria Lake, is a man-made lake in south Kolkata. The land on which the lake lies was a marshy jungle in the past. The Calcutta Improvement Trust (CIT) acquired this land in the early 1920s, developed the lake and named it Dhakuria Lake. Later, in May 1958, the lake was renamed as Rabindra Sarovar by CIT. At present, this lake and its surrounding area serve as one of the finest recreational spots in the city. From a children park to gardens and auditoria, there are ample places of interest around the lake.
