Description
Rajabai Clock Tower is situated within the compound of Fort Campus in the University of Mumbai. Sir Gilbert Scott designed the structure of the tower, which bears resemblance to London s Clock Tower Big Ben. Measuring around 280 feet in height, this clock tower flaunts a perfect amalgamation of Gothic and Venetian styles of architecture. It has a huge clock, which is visible from quite a distance and rings at fixed intervals. During the British rule, the clock played 16 different tunes including Rule Britannia, A Handel Symphony, Home! Sweet Home! and God Save the King. However, now it only plays one tune. From intricately engraved spiral staircase to colourful stained glass windows, this architectural marvel has many impressive features. The tower houses the university's library and a gallery that speaks at length about the rich culture of the city.
