Known as Gandhi Ashram and Satyagraha Ashram, Sabarmati Ashram is located right on the banks of the Sabarmati River, in the Sabarmati suburb of Ahmedabad. Mahatama Gandhi lived 12 years of his life in the ashram with his wife Kasturba. It was from the Sabarmati Ashram that Gandhi led the Dandi SaltMarch also popularly known as the Salt Satyagraha. Since the movement had a great impact on the Indian Independence, the ashram has been established as a national monument by the government. The ashram features different rooms with 250 photo-enlargements of some of the most historic events from Gandhi's life. There is a "My life is my message" gallery that Sabarmati Ashram houses in addition to a library consisting of over 35,000 books, a cottage by the name of Hridaya Kunj, and a guesthouse called Nandini.
