Description
Located in the campus area of Madras University, the Senate House is well-designed. Conceived by the genius architect Robert Fellowes Chisholm, it is one of the most stunning buildings in Chennai. Flanked by four towers and domes painted in earthy colours, the monument is a perfect example of the Indo-Saracenic style bended with the Byzantine architecture. The main attraction of the house is its central hall which is huge in size and is erected on six stone pillars. Apart from that, there are six porches (along with three segmental arch openings) - two on the eastern and western sides and one on the northern and southern side of the building. Made of brick shell and lime mortar, the roof is worth admiring. The building also has a convocation hall, porticos and parapet surrounding these porticos, meeting halls and a library.
