Description

The temple was constructed by Raja Mansingh who brought the statue of Goddess Shila Devi from Jessore, Bangladesh in 1604. It is said that the Goddess herself came in his dreams and ordered him to recover her statue lying under sear near Jessore. The statue was recovered in the form of a shila (slab) and hence the name Shila Mata. Shila Mata Temple is also known as Kali Temple. Maharaja Man Singh was a staunch devotee of Goddess Kali. It took 10 years to build the temple. The temple is made out of white marble and the idol is black in colour. An idol of Lord Ganesh is carved here out of a single piece of coral. The festival of Navratri is celebrated with a lot of pomp and show here and is the best time to visit the temple with the whole family.
