Description
Shinde Chhatri is one of the most significant landmarks in the city and is reminiscent of the Maratha rule. It is a hall that marks the spot of Mahadji Shinde's cremation on 12 February 1794. A well-preserved structure, Shinde Chhatri has gained the popularity for its fresh Anglo-Rajasthan style of architecture. The main hall has the silver statue of Mahadji; prayer vessels used by the family to propitiate family deity; carvings, paintings and photographs of the Scindia family.
