Description
The former palace of the royal family of Shobhabajar - Shobhabajar Rajbari is an interesting place to visit. Founded by Raja Nabakrishna Deb in the mid of 17th century, this heritage site was originally a saat-mahala house (a building with seven courtyards). At present, the palace complex features a main building and the Nat Mandap. The main building is a palatial double-storey structure with a thakurdalan (open courtyard) in the middle. Strong pillars with square bases and multi-foil arches on the top support the building. Towards south of the courtyard, there was a naach ghar, which is now in ruins. The central courtyard is used for organising festivals and special functions, the most notable among which is Durga Puja.
