Description
Constructed in the year 1780 for the Scottish community in Chennai, St Andrews Church is recognised as `the Queen of Scottish Churches in the East'. Also known as Kirk, the church is managed by the body of Church of South India (CSI). The church was conceptualised and constructed by the genius Colonel James Caldwell and Major Thomas Fort de Havilland. Displaying one of the finest examples of Georgian architecture in South India, it has an arching dome tinted with Lapis Lazuli. Besides that, there is a sixteen fluted Corinthian column which lends a charming effect to the church. Don t miss spotting other unique features of the church including the black and white marble floor as well as the exquisite woodwork on the interiors.
