Established in the year 1962, State Archaeological Museum is one of the finest attractions in Kolkata. A place worth visiting for history lovers, State Archaeological Museum houses a wide collection of rare tools that belonged to the Early, Middle and the Late Stone Ages. Proto-historic antiquities collected from Pandu Rajar Dhibi (Burdwan) and unique terracotta, sculptures, stucco and sculptures from the erstwhile Gupta, Kushana, Maurya, Sunga, Pala and Medieval times are some of the museum's proud possessions. The museum's Historical Art section, which was opened in 1963 bears a huge assortment of items like old terracotta, textiles, bronzes, wood-carvings and manuscripts.
